About Us
We meet for walks at
Winton House Centre • 18 High Street
every Wednesday at 10:00am
last Monday of the month at 10:00am

We encourage people to take regular exercise in the fresh air and to get healthier. For those interested, there is also a social side to our Group, with a Christmas lunch and other events during the year.
Trained volunteer lead walkers along varied scenic routes which include woods, country paths and streams. The walks take more or less an hour and generally suit all the people who walk with us. Afterwards everyone is welcome to join us for a chat and cup of tea or coffee .
On the last Monday of each month we offer a rather longer walk, lasting about two hours, for those who occasionally want to tackle a more ambitious route. These walks take us deeper into the countryside surrounding Petersfield, into areas such as the Hangers, to the west and north of the town, a landscape so characteristic of this part of Hampshire.
PLEASE NOTE: These walks are temporarily suspended during the winter months. Please check again in Spring 2009.
Petersfield boasts many historic buildings, some dating from as far back as medieval times. Many of these catch the eye as we walk through the town on our way to and from the more rural outskirts. There are many other attractions, also to be seen on our walks.
Perhaps the greatest of these is The Heath, one of the largest tracts of heathland in the vicinity. Here may be found several tumuli listed as ancient monuments as well as the 30 acre Heath Pond. It is a habitat which supports a surprising variety of wild fowl, fish, flowers and songbirds. The Group has enjoyed an interpretative walk around the Heath and we hope to arrange more along similar lines.
So walking with us is a lot of fun. It's free, sociable and safe walking in a group. There is no need to book: just turn up and join in. Walkers are encouraged to walk at their own pace, not to feel any pressure to 'keep up' and to enjoy themselves, particularly by chatting amongst themselves as they walk.
Do come and join us
Discover more of the local area and make new friends. Walking to Health offers gentle exercise for all ages and everyone in the group enjoys meeting old and new friends while keeping fit.
Take exercise without realising!
