|   22nd October 2008 : A Visit to Liss
|
One of our occasional walks away from Petersfield took us to Liss.
On a beautiful, crisp, autumnal morning we followed the course of the Liss Riverside Walk which has evolved from the disused
track of the Bordon Military Railway which closed in 1971.
Since 1992, this conservation area, of which the Riverside Walk is a part, has been managed and maintained by the Liss
Conservation Volunteers.
Until a new management team is found for the LCV, support for the continuing work of the LCV will be provided by
East Hampshire District Council and Liss Parish Council.

David Shepherd Bridge across the River Rother was a good place for a breather and
photo opportunity while everyone took in the unusual vegetation in the immediate area.
After closure of the Military Railway, David Shepherd attempted to set up a steam railway along the old tracks -
a plan which was finally thwarted by local resistance.
In his newer role as conservationist, David Shepherd recently opened the rebuilt bridge which provides a vital link
for residents of Liss Forest to the Riverside Walk and the village centre.

We didn't spend all our time posing for the camera!
Here we are passing the Rotherbank Farm bridge on our return from Liss Forest.

And still they come . . . thirty plus walkers - a remarkable turnout.

Another excuse for a stop - the final photo opportunity.
Here we paused in the clearing which leads to the stile crossing into Ten Acre Field,
before completing the last leg back to the Whistle Stop for tea and coffee.
